KYOTO

Design by Ayoe Vallentin

KYOTO was created with the traditional Japanese art of paper folding in mind; the origami.
Practicing the art of folding paper is the very background for the creation of the advanced folded lamination technique used for the shell of the KYOTO chair. It allows multi-dimensional curves of the plywood thus offering the best seating comfort possible.
KYOTO is the result of persistent and repeated experiments with small paper models of the sophisticated shell based on the assumption that what can be folded in paper can also be moulded in plywood.
As a natural consequence, this fine chair which – so to speak – unifies advanced wood techniques with the art of folding paper also had to have a Japanese name; KYOTO.
The light-weight float of the KYOTO shell above the thin metal frame expresses the designer’s inspiration by the flying roofs of the Japanese tea houses along with her search for ease and refinement.
The elegance, ease and excellent seating comfort so characteristic of the KYOTO will be an added benefit for any room of the highest architectural standard. The chair will be the ideal choice for conference halls or rooms, staff canteens, private homes and numerous other places where quality is a key parameter.
A breath of fresh air in a spirit that unites Japanese refinement with Scandinavian design talent.
